Ten young people have successfully graduated from the latest BLAZE course hosted by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.
Designed for students with a wide range of complex needs, the programme builds personal resilience, boosts wellbeing, strengthens relationships, and fosters healthier local communities.
The pupils aged between 12 and 13 from Oak Grove College took part in a diverse programme of firefighter simulated exercises and activities to support their social and emotional development.
This combination of drill yard skills such as running hoses and squirting water, alongside teambuilding challenges, first aid training, and communication activities, helps to equip young people with lifelong skills and improve their confidence.
A special pass out parade was held to celebrate the pupilsβ achievements on Friday (2 October) at Lancing Fire Station in front of their proud families and friends.
Area Manager Adrian Carter attended the event and presented the young people with their certificates. Speaking after the event he said:
It was a privilege to attend the pass out parade and celebrate the achievements of these remarkable young people.
Over the course of the BLAZE programme, the young people have shown determination, resilience, teamwork and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. The confidence and skills they have developed will benefit them for years to come.
Every student should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved, and I would like to thank our team of instructors, the staff at Oak Grove College, and the families who have supported them throughout their journey.
